Brian Mahony is currently the Director of Global Projects at the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the world governing body for the Olympic sport of triathlon. Responsible for strategic planning and campaign management, Mahony has been at the forefront of many of ITU’s significant innovations during his 11 years at the organisation.
He was instrumental in the introduction and formation of the World Triathlon Series – an innovative concept in the sport which combines large scale mass participation events with the highest level of elite competition, located in iconic city centres. The Series is broadcast live and on-demand across 160 nations to a cumulative audience in excess of 170 million.
Mahony also heads the creation of key Olympic campaigns and strategy for the inclusion of new and existing disciplines in the Olympic Games. Using a network of big screens and portable pools he developed the pioneering ‘Triathlon Live’ project with the London 2012 Organising Committee, Live Nation and the IOC to leverage significantly more exposure for triathlon around London 2012, and actively engage the UK public to participate in the Games.
Previously he was the Director of Media and TV of ITU overseeing ITU’s television, digital and social strategy, creating and managing the internal ITU Communications team.
